  • Entering 9-10 Grade
  • 6 Days / 5 Overnights

As Astro Recruits progress toward their end goal of establishing life on another planet, they must first successfully live in outer space. In Mission: Astro Lab, campers will not only work together as a team to send crews to the Astro Lab (a space-based experimentation station modeled after the real International Space Station), but also work with private companies to make space more accessible for all, focus on overcoming health and mental illness issues which arise while living in space and ensure fair working conditions – even in outer space – for everyone! During this camp experience, Astro Recruits will train for weightlessness by being introduced to SCUBA and complete high altitude balloon experiments in preparation of their mission.

Activities:

  • Complete a mission to dock with the Astro Lab using both the Cosmosphere’s Mission Control Center and featuring the NEW Astralis capsule-based simulator modeled after the NASA Orion capsule
  • Train for weightlessness with an introduction to SCUBA training
  • Test payloads and launch a High Altitude Balloon as high as 100,000 ft in the air
  • Prepare for and conduct medical flight tests on Mission: Moon Shot astronauts
  • Train like an astronaut on Cosmosphere equipment like the 4-G Centrifuge, the Multi-Axis Trainer (MAT) and a Russian Soyuz Spacecraft Simulator

"Push hard in all things technical, there’s more really cool stuff out there to do or learn about than any single human can comprehend. The more you know, the more amazing and interesting everything is."
- Jason Clark, Cosmosphere Camps Alumnus and Principal Engineer at SpaceX
